SSD's vs HDD's

SSD’s (Solid State Disk) are now becoming more and more common in newer PC’s and laptops/netbooks

These devices are smaller, faster and more resilient than the old HDD’s (Hard Disk Drive’s) that are easily destroyed. Current SSD’s are expensive and their storage is still on the low side.
For a 256GB SSD you would pay around $360-$500 depending on the brand you get where as a 250 GB HDD would cost around $36 - $110 depending on the brand you get.

But prices out of the way for a while and let’s talk about speed. Specifically access and write speed

SSD’s Read and Write speed up to 230MB/s for read and up to 180MB/s for write speed

HDD’s Read and Write speed 3.0 GB/s for both read and writes

But where the performance gain in SSD’s are over HDD’s is in the seek time since SSD’s are solid and have no moving parts the access time is almost instant. HDD’s theirs probably around a few milliseconds between accesses and the moving parts to catch up. So all in all SSD’s are better in performance then HDD’s, but for now HDD’s are better in storage space and cheaper price but that gap is closing pretty fast.

Where do the performance gains in SSD’s really come in? The answer is Raid 0 configuration where 2 same size SSD’s are used as one drive.
Access time is cut in half and performances increases greatly and programs open almost instantly.

Laptop on the left has a SSD the one on the right has a HDD.

Lenovo's easy type island style keyboard, multi-touch mouse pad, Right and Left click mouse buttons and a Finger print reader on the far right (not pictured)

Here we have a Power Port, VGA Port, HDMI out, USB 2.0/eSATA combo port and a USB 2.0 port

On the Right side we have a Headphone Jack, Mic in Jack, a DVD-RW drive, USB 2.0 and an RJ45/Ethernet port.

OK, so after a few days of looking it over and using it I'm satisfied with the results. Here are the specs for the one I have

Processor: Intel Core i3 @ 2.20GHz
Memory: 4GB DDR3
Graphics: Intel's integrated HD 3000 chip set on CPU
Screen: 15.6 inch HD LED back lite display
Wireless: 802.11 B/G/N
Battery: 6 cell battery that will last around 3-5 hours depending on use.
Weight: about 5.6 LBS
Other features is a built in webcam @ 0.3 megapixels for facial recognition security and a fingerprint scanner for additional security and USB Locker to prevent your files from being stolen. If you have problems with viruses or need to have a clean slate you use the One Key recovery button to start out of the box fresh again.

Over all I really like this laptop. It has the power I need and is great for watching movies on.

The white laptop stands do not come with the laptop I made those out of used shipping boxes. They keep the Laptop at the proper angle for typing and makes it easier to reach the keys.

Thank You.
